Gym Review: Fairmont Hotel, Singapore

Location & Hours

The gym is open for guests 24 hours a day with attendants on duty from 7:00am to 10:00pm and services/treatments available from 9

Machines

They have a great selection of machines! Everything was good quality, clean, and functional. They had something for just about every bodypart and multiples of some including the chest presses.

Cardio Equipment

They had a separate room for cardio equipment, which was kind of awkwardly all facing the front where they had some kind of a motivational montage on the wall. Didn’t make much difference since each machine has its own TV. I did notice, however, that at least 3 of the treadmills I tried weren’t working properly (couldn’t set the incline) so I had to hop around several times which was a bit annoying. Otherwise, they had a large selection of bikes, ellipticals, and treadmills for use.

Freeweights

I didn’t do a very good job of photographing this area (or any at this gym, for that matter), but the freeweight section was impressive. They have a full rack of dumbbells, fixed-weight barbells, and bench press racks with olympic bars and plates. No freeweight squat rack in sight, but a Smith machine worked as an alternative. Very pleased with the selection here.

Amenities

Amenities included towels, fruit, and headphones available at the front desk. They had a couple of attendants/trainers walking around and cleaning up to keep the place tidy which I appreciated.

Pool & Spa

We didn’t get a chance to check these out, but from what I heard and read they are on part with the rest of the facilities (i.e. very good).

Atmosphere

Great atmosphere in this gym. I like that the cardio equipment was in a separate room from the weights so that neither group is distracting the other or getting in the way. I don’t recall what kind of music was playing or if it was too loud–which means that it wasn’t bothersome. It wasn’t overcrowded at all and I had no problems or delays using any of the equipment.

Summary

This is a fantastic gym and on par with the best I have been to. If you’re staying at this hotel, don’t pass up a trip!

  1. I see you are a fan of the cable crossover. That is a good piece of equipment for a total body workout in a minimum of space. I recommend those as well.
